A previous post noted that many movies contain economic lessons.
The purpose of this very short post is to encourage you to watch The Girl who Cried Pearls for many reasons. It won an Oscar for Animated Short Film last night, which adds to the NFB‘s long list of awards. I think that this story about an old man talking with his granddaughter is told extremely well. I think that the images are beautiful.
And, without revealing any spoilers, the 17-minute film contains two big economic lessons. One of the lessons concerns choice (i.e., when opportunity cost bumps heads with personal taste). The surprise at the end contains a second lesson concerning comparative statics (something about international trade, if you want to be more specific).
